Is it the enthesitis or the drugs that kill my appetite and give everything a metallic or salty taste?
Paul Barrett

Hexham - Northumberland - Loads of spectacular walks - all I need now are the joints to go with them! :)

Enthesitis (2012)
Ulcerative Colitis (1990)

MTX completely changed my taste buds - some foods which I absolutely loved I couldn`t face. I love garlic, but just couldn`t stomach it at all. Once the MTX was stopped - for other reasons - my taste returned to normal and I`ve never had anything similar on any of my other meds.

Hi Paul

Steroid tablets give me a funny metallic taste all the time. I take 3 mg a day.

I think I lost my ability to taste from Gabapentin - which is for chronic nerve pain (and epileptics!) - I now can hardly taste anything at all. It does mean I'm not bothered about what I eat!!

I notice you also have a problem with Nausea - that is very likely the morphine - it makes my daughter sick too - she has RA as well. She also takes anti sickness tablets every time she takes the MTX otherwise she couldn't keep it down - and as a drug was working quite well on her RA - although not entirely.

Glad you are asking lots of questions and looking things up on the internet... that's how I learned so much when I was first diagnosed and this forum is great for questions as there is usually someone who has had the same experience and can give some help.

Don't underestimate paracetamol - as it is actually a good pain killer if you take it regularly 4 times a day (even if you don't think you need it) - it seems to build up in the body over time.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

Anne x
